Tom Frame

Hey folks – the first two pages of Live Static Chapter Eight go live today, as we return to the beach that we last saw in Chapter Three. You’d think I’d planned all this, wouldn’t you? Anyway, as ever you can go here and here to read the pages. Be sure to return next week for our next thrilling installment.

I had intended to talk a little about the new Superman film, which I saw on Friday, but to be honest it seems fairly unimportant when compared with the news that Tom Frame died this week. Tom Frame was, certainly for me, THE letterer in comics. His letters for 2000AD, and especially on Judge Dredd, were simple, clear and always a delight. As someone who has never managed to get to grips with the vagaries of lettering I’ve always been impressed by people who really have a handle on what is essentially an invisible art. It’ll be strange to see a Dredd strip with someone else’s letters.

Here’s to Tom Frame, he’ll be much missed.
